In December 2016, John Stapleton decided to form a winter swimming club in Jervis Bay, as there were no winter swimming clubs in the Shoalhaven area. A meeting was held with eight people and the club was formed from that day on.
Little steps were taken with an overview of a community-based social swimming club. It was decided to put forward an agenda for the inaugural meeting which was held at Vincentia Golf Club in 2017, with the concept of Sunday race days featuring a 50m handicap freestyle race and a 25m handicap mixed stroke event. The eight Foundation Members are John Stapleton, Kym Lees, Brian Probets, Steve Pryn, Fred Levy, Ken Stapleton, Don McRae and John Daly. Application was made to the Winter Swimming Association of Australia, and we were accepted as the Jervis Bay Wobbegongs Winter Swimming Club. |
Our membership is steadily increasing and being in a healthy environment out club can only be successful in the future.
In 2020 the Wobbegongs became a sub-club of Club Jervis Bay, who promote the activities of a number of local community clubs and provided our club with considerable support. As a winter swimming club, our Sunday Race Days take place on Huskisson Beach, May through to September. |
